Victoria Hughes, Harpist

Victoria teaches in her home studio, where she has two beautiful, full-size concert harps as well as a selection of folk, or Celtic lever harps.

For children and youth, a forty-five minute weekly lesson is best. Lessons should ideally be every week so correct technique can be monitored, although if distance is a problem, lessons can be arranged twice monthly.

Youth students can choose a classical learning track, which would possibly include youth orchestra coaching and preparation if desired. Certificate of Merit harp course is also offered. Jazz lessons can also be given, as well as Celtic, or Irish, music.

For adults, an hour lesson is recommend. Most adults choose to have weekly lessons, at least at first, as proper harp technique is important, but twice per month can also be arranged. More advanced students can also drop in for occasional coaching.

What Are Victoria's Lessons Like?

Harp Ensemble:

Victoria runs a harp ensemble out of her house monthly, where her own students and others can play music together. All music is provided, and students can bring their own harps or use one of hers. Other performance opportunities are also available throughout the year.

All potential students are invited for a free “come and see the harp” mini lesson and visit at my home studio in El Cerrito, in the East Bay. This way, you can meet me, try out a few harps, and see if you might be interested. We can also discuss different sizes and types of harps, and I can provide information on harp rentals.
Students can choose to learn classical, jazz, popular/contemporary, folk, Irish/Celtic, and even rock n' roll. Singing while playing the harp can also be incorporated. Prior music reading is not required. All ages and experience levels are welcomed.
